Types Of Mastectomy
  • Radical ( Halsted Mastectomy )
    • En block removal of breast tisuue + Pec minor + Pec Major + entire axillary content ( I, II, III )
  • Modified Radical Mastectomy
    • Complete removal of breast tissue + underlying fascia of Pec Major + level I and II axillary LN
    • Pec Minor and Pen Major are PRESEERVED
    • Intercostobrachial nerve is sacrificed==> numbness in medial arm
  • Total Mastectomy ( Complete )
    • Removal of Breast
    • From clavicle to the rectus abdominus & between sternal edge and latismus dorsi
      • removal of nipple
  • Skin sparing Mastectomy
    • Majority of skin left
    • Reduction of scar
  • Nipple sparing Mastectomy

How do we know Radical Mastectomy is not needed any more?
